Afcon 2021: Simon and Iheanacho lead Nigeria attack against Tunisia

Coach Augustine Eguavoen has kept faith in the starting XI that silenced Egypt against Tunisia’s Carthage Eagles

Goalkeeper – Maduka Okoye
After he was rested against Guinea-Bissau, Maduka Okoye reclaimed his spot between the sticks ahead of Francis Uzoho and Daniel Akpeyi.

Defender – William Troost-Ekong
One of the regulars in Eguavoen’s team and he has played every minute of their games in Cameroon so far. The Watford man will lead the team again in the absence of Ahmed Musa

Defender – Kenneth Omeruo
Omeruo has formed a formidable partnership with Troost-Ekong in the ongoing tournament and they are linking up again to halt the Carthage Eagles.

Defender – Zaidu Sanusi
The Porto left-back starts ahead of Jamilu Collins and he will be needed to support the defence and help the attack in their push for goals.

Defender – Ola Aina
Aside from his defensive abilities, the Torino star is expected to provide support for the strikers thanks to the blistering speed with which he joins attacks from the flank.

Midfielder – Wilfred Ndidi
The midfield marshal will provide a shield for the defence and his tackles will help to limit the attacking threat of Tunisia.

Midfielder – Joe Aribo
Aribo’s imposing presence will help Nigeria dominate the midfield after he was rested against the Djurtus.

The Rangers star has proved his quality in Cameroon and he has been impressive in the no. 10 role.

Midfielder – Moses Simon
Arguably, Nigeria’s stand-out player at the 2021 Afcon so far and his influence was felt immediately after he was introduced as a second-half substitute against Guinea-Bissau.

His untiring work rate comes as a boost for the Super Eagles as they eye a place in the quarter-finals.

Midfielder – Samuel Chukwueze
His creative skills and runs will be required to boost the Super Eagles’ push for goals in Garoua.

Forward – Kelechi Iheanacho
Iheanacho has been the supporting striker for the three-time African champions and he has played the role brilliantly in his last three games with an assist and a goal.

Forward – Taiwo Awoniyi
The Union Berlin star was also rested in the last match but he will lead the Super Eagles’ attack ahead of Umar Sadiq in a crucial knockout game
