The Chief Medical Director (CMD), Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital (AE-FUTHA), Abakaliki, Dr Emeka Ogah, has advised medical professionals to take dialogue as a better approach in addressing challenges in the health sector.
Ogah made the remarks on Thursday at the 2021 “Physicians” week celebration and award night of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Ebonyi branch, in Abakaliki.
The event is with the theme: “Nigeria in the COVID-19 Era: Health Systems Strengthening for National Security and Prosperity”.
The CMD explained that the process would be achievable and bring better result rather than allowing patients to suffer during their demand and action.
He commended resident doctors for returning to work, expressing optimism that the federal government is working towards meeting their demands.
“I believe with what federal government is proposing in the budget for the health sector, things will turn out to be better,” he said.
The medical director, a recipient of the NMA higher award of “roll of honour”, appreciated the association for identifying ethical standards among members in their medical practice.
He said that the confidence would spur them to do more for humanity.
He said that the honour (award) is a challenge for improvement in the medical service delivery of the hospital and would encourage more work.
Meanwhile, the NMA State Chairman, Dr Benjamin Umezurike, has called on Governor David Umahi to assist the association on completion of its state secretariat and vehicles for effective services.
Umezurike said that the event is an annual celebration to appreciate doctors for their selfless service to humanity.
He commended Mrs Rachael Umahi, wife of the Governor, for the upliftment of the downtrodden and giving succour to indigent patients in the society.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event featured installation of NMA ambassador of 2021 to 2022, roll of honour and health care merit awards to individuals who earned it.
Other awards include distinguished service award to Mrs Umahi for the upliftment of women, reduction in maternal morbidity and mortality in the society. (NAN)
