El-Rufai urges JAMB to end lower cut-off marks for northern students

He made the call on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, while appearing on Channels Television’s ‘Sunrise Daily’.

The Governor explained said it was wrong for the students in the North to be given an advantage in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, when they score lower points.

He, therefore, demanded that the cut-off marks should be applied for all students across the country, saying, “The north has always been behind in education.

“We’ve continuously been the disadvantaged region right from independence even though we’re given preferences, JAMB scores and all that. That has not helped; in fact,it has made our people lazy,”  the Governor said.

365Daily recalls that the 2021 Policy  meeting of Stakeholders in Education had cancelled the national cut-off mark for JAMB. All higher institutions are now to determine their cut-off marks respectively.
