365Daily – The 136 pupils abducted by bandits from Salihu Yanko Islamiyya School in Tegina, Niger State, have been released, after almost three months in captivity.
Fifteen adults kidnapped along with them had escaped a few weeks ago.
The children, aged five to fifteen, were said to be released in Birnin Gwari, Kaduna State, last night.
Some of them had died while in the den of their captors, so it is uncertain how many of the 136 kidnapped made it out alive.
They were taken to Niger State last night, where they will receive medical checkup before being received by the State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, at the government House today.
The release came on the backdrop of an assurance given last Wednesday by the the new Commissioner of Police in Niger State, Monday Bala Kuryas, that the pupils and others in captivity would soon be released.
