365Daily – As crisis continue to rock the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Governors on the platform of the party have once again called for an emergency meeting to find a way out.
365Daily recall that on Tuesday the PDP crisis worsened; splitting it into two factions.
Deputy National Chairman (South), Elder Yemi Akinwonmi, leads one faction while the Deputy National Chairman (North), Senator Suleiman Nazif, takes charge of the other.
Akinwonmi and Nazif are laying claim to the position of the National Chairman, to fill the leadership gap created by the suspension of the substantive National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus.
A High court sitting in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, had on Monday, August 23, 2021, issued an order restraining Secondus from parading himself as PDP National Chairman and taking part in any activity of the party while the order lasts.
Akinwonmi announced his assumption of office as Secondus’ replacement pending the determination of the restraining order slammed him by the court on Tuesday.
In a statement on Wednesday evening by the Director- General of the PDP Governors Forum, Hon. C.I.D Maduabum, he disclosed that the Chairman of the forum , Rt Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, in consultation with other governors in the party have summoned an emergency meeting of the Forum to hold on Thursday 26th August, 2021 at 5pm.
The statement reads, “The Chairman of the PDP GOVERNORS FORUM , Rt Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, CFR, in consultation with his colleagues have summoned an emergency meeting of the Forum to hold on Thursday 26th August, 2021 at 5pm.
“The meeting will discuss recent developments in the PDP.
“The Governors enjoined all PDP members and stakeholders to exercise patience as efforts are being made to ensure continued stability of the Party in the days ahead.l, the statement concluded.
This is the second time the governors are meeting this month to discuss the lingering leadership crisis.
They met on 9 August at the Akwa Ibom State Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro District, Abuja.
