365Daily – The President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, has asked the Senate Committee on the Independent National Electoral Commission to screen media aide to President Muhammadu Buhari, Ms. Lauretta Onochie, and five others for confirmation as INEC Commissioners.

President Buhari sent the list of the nominees to the Senate for screening late 2020.

Onochie’s nomination had caused outrage among Nigerians who opposed it because she is a card carrying member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Senators of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has also rejected her nomination, leading to a halt in the screening process.

Onochie is controversial for making misguided statements in defence of her principal.

She was nominated to serve as INEC Commissioner representing Delta State on the board of the commission.

Others nominated are Prof. Muhammad Kallah (Katsina); Prof. Kunle Ajayi (Ekiti); Saidu Ahmad (Jigawa); Prof Sani Adam (North- Central) and Dr. Baba Bila (North-East).

The Senate President charged the Senate INEC Committee to report back in four weeks.
