365Daily – The Minister of Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi, has announced the confirmation of Usman Alkali Baba as the substantive Inspector General of Police.
Baba was appointed in April by President Muhammadu Buhari in acting capacity.
His confirmation came after a Police Council Meeting on Friday, June 4, 2021, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
365Daily had earlier reported that Baba may be confirmed as the substantive IGP in the meeting.
President Muhammadu Buhari presided over the meeting which had Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Chairman of Nigeria Governors Forum, Kayode Fayemi and others in attendance.
It was also held virtually where other state Governors, including that of Sokoto, Aminu Tambuwal, attended.
Briefing State House Correspondents at the end of the meeting, Dingyadi said the appointment of Usman Baba was unanimously adopted.
The Minister said the President urged the new IGP to justify the confidence reposed on him by reducing the rising wave of insecurity in the country.
