UPDATE: Abducted staff of Ondo School regains freedom

365Daily – A staff of a private school in Ondo State, Chimola School, Akure, who was abducted by bandits on Thursday morning, has been freed by her captors.

The staff, Omolayo Ojo, was taken away when the assailants hijacked the school bus.

Ojo said the gunmen threatened to harm her if she did not cooperate with them and was released when they said ”she was innocent.”

The school bus was hijacked at Oba Ile Estate in the Akure North Local Government Area of  the state at about 6:45am.

According to a report by The Punch, the driver and the abducted staff doing pick-up of pupils when the bandits, numbering about eight on motorcycles, attacked the bus, forcing the driver to stop.

It quoted a source as saying that the driver was dragged out of the bus which they hijacked and drove to an unknown destination with the staff on the bus.

He said, “The driver and the attendant were about to pick the first set of pupils when the incident happened. The gunmen rounded up the vehicle with dangerous weapons. The driver was dragged down from the bus while one of them took over the driver’s seat and drove off with the attendant in the bus.

“The whereabouts of the attendant is still unknown but we have reported the incident at the Oba Ile Police station. This is the first time we are experiencing this kind of situation here. It is quite unfortunate.”
