365Daily – Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Prof. Kingsley Moghalu, has declared that he will run for the office of the President in the 2023 elections.
Moghalu ran for the same office as the candidate of Young Progressive Party (YPP) in 2019 but lost to President Muhammadu Buhari.
He later said he had quit partisan politics in the aftermath of his defeat at the polls.
However, in a statement personally signed by him on Tuesday, May 1, 2021, he announced a change of mind, saying he was back to active politics.
He stated: “My decision to re-contest the top seat is driven by concern for the youth and to seek a clearer alternative to the status quo that would tackle challenges currently facing the nation.”
Moghalu also disclosed that he would not run on the platform of YPP and would make his new party of choice public in due time.
Giving a brief on his four-point agenda, SWAG, he said: “SWAG means Security for all Nigerians and Nigeria’s territory; War against poverty: skills, jobs for our youths and an innovation economy; Accelerated education and healthcare reform; Good governance: inclusive, transparent, effective and accountable.”
He promised to run a government with a team of highly competent Nigerians from all parts of the country to deliver results on the 4 point agenda in four years.
Speaking further, he urged the National Assembly to pass Electoral Reforms Bill into law, with diaspora voting included.
“Our votes must count and be counted transparently.
“The amendments should include a provision for Diaspora Nigerians to be able to register and vote in all elections in Nigeria from abroad,” he said.
