365Daily – The Chairman of the Houee Committee on Constitution Review, Hon. Idris Wase, has announced the suspension of the scheduled public hearing on the review of the 1999 Constitution in Abia and Imo States.

Wase, who is also the Deputy Speaker of the House, said in a statement signed by him on Sunday, May 30, 2021: “The House of Representatives Special Committee on Constitution Review Zonal Public Hearing scheduled to take place in Owerri Central (Imo and Abia States) on Tuesday, 1st and Wednesday, 2nd June, 2021, has been suspended until further notice.”

It added: “The Committee regrets any inconveniences this might cause our esteemed invited guests, stakeholders and the general public.”

The suspension of the Constitution review hearing in the two states followed the Sunday morning killing of a former presidential aide to Goodluck Jonathan, Ahmed Gulak, in Owerri, the Imo State capital.

Imo State Police said Gulak was murdered while he was on his way to catch a flight at Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, Owerri.

It added that he was without security escorts and did not notify the Command of his movement.

There has been a series of dangerous attacks on Police and other government assets in both  states, and the Southeast region in general, by yet to be identified gunmen, leading to a loss of lives and properties.
