365Daily – The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), has conducted a massive South-East rally to herald its settlement scheme which offers 30 per cent discount on bills to its customers.
The company visited major metropolis, markets and residential areas in the South-East on Wednesday, May 12, 2021, to inform people of the benefits of its ongoing initiative known as the “Arrears One-Time Settlement Scheme’’.
Speaking with newsmen in Enugu after the rally, the Head, Corporate Communications of EEDC, Mr Emeka Ezeh, said that the scheme would run for three months from April 22 to July 31, 2021.
According to him, the scheme covers arrears incurred as at December 31, 2020 and would benefit residential and commercial customers of EEDC under the Non-Maximum Demand category.
Ezeh explained: “For our residential and commercial customers to benefit from this scheme, they are to make a one-time full payment of their arrears and enjoy 30 per cent discount instantly.
“Customers are implored to take advantage of this generous and rare opportunity to clear their accumulated arrears.
“Interested customers are advised to visit the manager (customer service) at the EEDC district office nearest to them to obtain full details of the scheme.”
On her part, the Manager, Customer Service of EEDC, Mrs Ijeoma Ogudebe, said that the scheme had opened the window for the company’s esteemed customers to lay complaints on contentious issues on their bills or other services.
“The Arrears One-Time Settlement Scheme provides a rare opportunity for our esteemed customers to lay any complaint or ask questions in our district offices scattered in the South-East on our services,’’ Ogudebe said.
The Manager, Community Empowerment of EEDC, Mr Nelson Umueze, called on communities to use the scheme to settle ‘age-long’ arrears owed the company.
“This is a rare opportunity opened for communities, and philanthropists that assist communities in making payments, to use this window to settle all arrears and open a clean sheet with the EEDC,’’ Umueze said.
A trader at Ogbete Market, Enugu, Mrs Esther Onyeama, said she would inform her co-tenants to see how they would off-set their N150,000 arrears since 2020.
Another resident, Mr Obinna Ogili, a resident of Ogui Road, said he moved into a new apartment in January and met unpaid arrears of about N32,000.
He added: “I will use this opportunity to see how the arrears can be settled and the money shared between myself and EEDC.”
