The governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Udom Emmanuel has harped on unity among stakeholders, leaders and party structure across all levels in Akwa Ibom State to foster development and democratic gains.
Addressing the gathering of the party leadership and members at the State Secretariat Complex of the PDP, Saturday February 27, 2021, Governor Emmanuel who is the leader of PDP in the state, expressed grief over the death of the state chairman of the party, saying that if it were within his power to avert the sad occurrence, the late Obong Ekpenyong would have survived.
The governor saluted the admirable virtues of the late party chairman, noting that the deceased deserves great honour even in death. He further prayed that the should not experience another wave of untimely deaths.
While recalling his earlier charge to the party, the governor made a case for stakeholders and leaders of the party to remain united, accountable, loyal and committed to the cause of PDP in the state. He noted that Akwa Ibom State chapter of PDP is a model chapter in the country, adding that there is so much hope and expectations from PDP in the state and that the party in Akwa Ibom must not fail in any regard.
On issues of party politics and development, Governor Emmanuel encouraged PDP faithful to pay more attention to issues of state development, than next election. Expressing disappointment in politicians who have no interest in development, but elections, he tasked political followers to look out for those who are interested in the next generation and not next election. He said when the time is right, only God will chose leaders for the people.
In his welcome remark, the Acting State Chairman of the party, Hon. Lawrence Udosen, thanked the governor for the role he has played in developing the party and growing the state. He said that the party appreciates his strides in the state, pledging to keep supporting his completion agenda for the good of Akwa Ibom State.
“We make bold to say that you have demonstrated great capacity and vision in governance and delivering of the much needed dividend of democracy. We pledge our unflinching loyalty and commitment to supporting your completion agenda”, Udosen said.
