Youths in Oruku Community in Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State on Sunday set vehicles and houses ablaze in protest of the killing of their traditional ruler, Igwe Emmanuel Chidiebere Mba.

His corpse was deposited at the National Orthopaedic Hospital mortuary.

“The traditional ruler was presiding over the meeting and three natives pointed at him. Immediately, one of the policemen shot him on the thigh and he fell down bleeding. There was confusion after the royal father was shot. Everybody in the hall ran for safety,” reports said.

Following the incident, some aggrieved members of the community later regrouped Saturday evening and attacked some members of the community.

More than four houses and some vehicles were reportedly set ablaze by the mob.

The Enugu State Police Command is yet to respond to the incident.
