365Daily – The Federal Government has declared Thursday, October 1, 2026, a public holiday to commemorate Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
This was announced by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government.
While congratulating Nigerians at home and abroad on the occasion, the minister, in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, said Nigeria’s welcoming spirit, cultural diversity, human capital and natural resources continue to make the country a nation of great potential and a source of pride across Africa.
He stressed that peace and stability remain essential to national development, urging Nigerians to uphold the spirit of patriotism and work collectively towards building a country that future generations can be proud of.
“As we celebrate 66 years of our independence, we should always remember that there is hope for our country and our diversity is our strength, and our collective determination remains the foundation upon which a stronger and more prosperous nation will be built,” the minister said.
He also reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment, under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to improving the welfare and security of Nigerians and creating an environment where citizens can live, work and pursue their legitimate aspirations.

Tunji Ojo further assured citizens that the government would continue to strengthen national security and improve public safety across the country.
