The Peter Obi Media Office has dismissed reports of internal divisions within the Obidient Movement, accusing political opponents of orchestrating a campaign of misinformation aimed at creating discord among supporters of the former Labour Party presidential candidate.
In a statement issued on Friday and signed by its spokesman, Idris Zekeri, the media office said recent claims, including the purported removal of the Obidient Movement’s National Coordinator, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, were false and should be disregarded.
The statement alleged that political adversaries and “disruptive individuals” were fabricating stories and attributing false statements to Peter Obi in an attempt to misrepresent his vision and weaken the movement.
It maintained that Obi’s political mission, now under the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), remains focused on addressing Nigeria’s socio-economic challenges rather than engaging in partisan conflicts.
According to the media office, the country’s pressing issues—including rising cost of living, inflation, unemployment, insecurity and weak public institutions—deserve greater attention than what it described as politically motivated distractions.
The statement said the movement remains committed to promoting accountable leadership and advancing policies aimed at improving the welfare of Nigerians.
It argued that engaging in political mudslinging would amount to a disservice to millions of Nigerians looking to Obi and the NDC for practical solutions to the nation’s challenges.
The media office urged those behind what it described as disinformation campaigns to channel their efforts toward offering meaningful solutions to the country’s problems instead of attempting to create divisions within the opposition.
It also called on supporters of the Obidient Movement, members of the Kwankwasoiyya Movement and other Nigerians to ignore rumours, fabricated reports and deliberate provocations, particularly claims that Dr. Yunusa Tanko had been removed as National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement.
Reaffirming confidence in the movement, the statement said its strength lies in a shared commitment to building “a functional, prosperous and secure Nigeria.”
