365Daily – The governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has withdrawn from the governorship primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing the need to place the interest of the state above personal ambition.
In a statement announcing his decision, Fubara said the move followed extensive consultations with family members, friends and political associates.
According to him, the decision was taken in the interest of peace, unity and stability in Rivers State.
The governor acknowledged that his withdrawal may disappoint many of his supporters and loyalists who had stood by him throughout his political journey, but expressed appreciation for their sacrifices and commitment.
He said: “Personal ambition must give way to the greater interest of Rivers people.”
Fubara explained that his silence in recent weeks had been deliberate and guided by the need to protect the larger interest of the state amid unfolding political developments.
While alluding to recent events within the political space, the governor maintained that certain matters were better handled quietly to preserve peace and avoid further tension.
He stressed that his decision to withdraw from the race should not be interpreted as an act of fear or weakness.
The Rivers governor also thanked the leadership of the APC and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for their support and encouragement.
He urged members and supporters of the party to remain united and committed ahead of the governorship election.
The withdrawal comes amid heightened political realignments and consultations within Rivers State ahead of the next electoral cycle.
