Matchday 24: Enyimba pipe Bayelsa United as Rangers defeat Kano Pillars

Enyimba International FC of Aba on Sunday piped visiting Bayelsa United 1-0 in one of Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) matchday 24 encounters played in Aba inside, Enyimba FC stadium.

The goal of the match came from Samuel Agu in the 82nd minute to send the fans into wide jubilation and ensure victory for the host.

Enyimba FC coach, Deji Ayeni said he expected a tough match going by the teams’ long-time rivalry and the importance of the match to both clubs.

He said that, Bayelsa United frustrated his team knowing what they were going through.

“Though, we are happy that we won the match and that is what we need, to boost our morale but I give it to Bayelsa United goalkeeper,” Ayeni said.

Ayeni said the visiting goalkeeper was the reason his team left it late to victory and wish the goalkeeper continued in that line so that.

“He will be a big access to the country national team.”

In another match, Rangers International Football Club also defeated Kano Pillars 2-0 in an encounter played at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu, lived up to expectations as both sides displayed tactical discipline and experience.

Rangers, popularly known as the Flying Antelopes, took the lead in the 12th minute through Emmanuel Essien, who capitalised on a loose ball outside the box to fire home the opening goal.

The goal sparked excitement among the home fans, but in spite of several attempts by both teams, the first half ended with Rangers holding a slim 1-0 advantage.

On resumption of the second half, the home side showed greater determination and attacking intent.

Their pressure paid off when captain Chidiebere Nwobodo embarked on a solo run into the Kano Pillars’ penalty area and released a shot that beat the goalkeeper to double Rangers’ lead.
