The Kebbi State government on Tuesday absorbed into the state civil service at 261 nurses and midwives who completed their studies from the state college of nursing sciences.
Commissioner for health, Yunusa Ismail made the disclosure in Birnin Kebbi during the orientation programme organised by branch of National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives geared towards preparing the inductees on how to fully integrate into the society as secondary healthcare givers.
The Commissioner who was represented by his permanent secretary, Dr Abubakar Zaki, said that induction is necessary as it will broaden their scope of understanding in terms of giving healthcare services in public hospitals.
“Life out the school environment is different from the one in public health facilities. Therefore, it’s important to give them some sort of orientation to prepare them for the tasks ahead”, he said.
Also speaking at the induction ceremony, the Kebbi branch chairman of National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, Nurse Kelani Abdulwaliyu commended the government for immediately absorbing the new nurses into the state civil service saying there is yet another batch of them which the governor has given approval.
“We are greatly indebted to the governor for his concern and care for nurses and midwives in Kebbi state”.
The ceremony which was held at Kebbi College of Nursing Sciences was attended by seasoned retired and serving experience nurses.
