Kebbi State Command of Nigeria Customs Service, said that within one month of aggressive operations under Comptroller, Chidi Chukwumeziri N. has generated revenue of thirteen million naira and seized contraband goods with duty paid value at eighty-four million naira.
Speaking on Thursday at the Command headquarters in Birnin Kebbi, the state Customs chief added that, he alongside other sister agencies in a seamless operation, assisted by DSS, NPF, NIS, NA, NAFDAC and NDLEA seized and destroyed guns, fake drugs and other dangerous and prohibited items “We didn’t do it for our children alone, but for the safety of Nigerians”.
He noted that under extant laws of Nigeria Customs Service, the Command also seized foreign rice, bales of second-handed clothes, 20 cartoons of light cigarette and thirteenth thousand litres of petrol otherwise known as premium motor spirit among other illicit items being brought in or trying to be smuggle out of the country.
Chidi pledged to sustain the confidence reposed in him by the Comptroller General of Customs whom he said found him worthy of the job.
“I promised my predecessor, Mr. Iheanacho that I will build on his legacies of allowing lawful trades at our border and is what I am doing today”, he said.
While commending management staff and field officers of Kebbi Command of Nigeria Customs Service, he said the existing synergy between the Command bore fruits as it aided the success of the operations which led to hitch free seizures despite the risk of curtailing smuggling at borders in Kebbi State.
