Benue State governor, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia has unveiled a 10- year policy document tagged Benue State Development Plan, BSDP.
The 10- year plan which will run from 2025-2034, according to a statement released yesterday in Makurdi, by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, said the plan represents his principal’s bold and visionary strategy for the next decade aimed at bringing about durable growth, fair development and inclusive governance in the state.
Governor Alia, in the statement said the plan among other things seeks to equally unlock the full potentials of the human and natural resources meant to ensure profitability for all citizens of the state.
He lamented that the state has faced many challenges despite its enormous agricultural resources, arable land which prides it as the food basket of the nation with a hardworking population as well as heavy amount of other natural endowment, explaining that the plan would unlock the full potentialities of the human and natural resources of the state which he noted if properly harnessed and managed will profit all citizens.
He also recalled that inspite of these vast potentials, the state has suffered from years of socio-economic neglect, which has resulted to infrastructural shortfall, unemployment, mismanagement of public resources and the menace of insecurity among others, emphasizing that the intention of the plan is to immediately tackle, pragmatically, these challenges head-on with the aim of taking Benue out of the woods.
The governor described the 10- year BSDP as a curative blueprint which apart from helping government to deliver optimally, would serve as guide to policy makers, investors, development partners and citizens alike in building a more prosperous and resilient state.
He pointed out that the document would be anchored on Security of Lives and Property, Agriculture and Rural Development, Commerce and Industry, Infrastructure, Development and Environment, Human Capital Development, Information as well as Political and Economic Governance.
He also described BSDP as a comprehensive document that has it detailed development plan and his strategic vision for the state as elaborated by the Benue State Budget and Economic Planning Commission.
