The Super Eagles of Nigeria have made frantic effort to remain in contention in the ongoing 2025 African Cup of Nations, AFCON, qualifier when they beat their counterparts from Benin Republic 3-0 on Saturday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
The match was going into the end of the half time 0-0 before Ademola Lookman beat a couple of defenders after a good move and fired in a cross to make it 1-0 for Nigeria at 45+2 minutes.
At 65 minute, Benin Republic had the clearest chance of the match at the feet of Steve Mounié, Number 9, who entered the six-yard box and shot hard, but the Nigerian goalkeeper deflected well.

Recall that Benin Republic had beaten Nigeria in their first leg by 2-1 under the supervision of former Coach Finidi George; a situation that aggravated Nigerian fans and led to the untimely exit of the gaffer from the country’s national team.
