365Daily – The meeting between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) scheduled to hold today, August 26, 2024, has been postponed.
It is now scheduled to hold on Wednesday, August 28.
This was disclosed by the President of ASUU, Emmanuel Osodeke, while appearing on Channels Television on Monday.
The Minister of Education had announced the meeting last Friday. No reason was given for the postponement.
Last Tuesday, ASUU issued a strike notice to the federal government after rising from its National Executive Committee meeting held on Monday, August 19, at the University of Ibadan.
Among the issues the union has been pressing for are emergency revitalisation fund of public universities; payment of outstanding earned academic allowances, and the release of withheld salaries, promotion arrears, and third-party deductions from members.
Other issues include stoppage of illegal recruitments; proliferation of public universities/abuse of universities’ laws, regulations, and processes; and removal of universities from the treasury single account, among others.
