365Daily – The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Wale Edun, has not proposed N105,000 in the new minimum wage template, the Presidency has said.
Edun had Thursday beat the 48-hour ultimatum given by President Bola Tinubu to submit the cost implications of the new minimum wage.
The order was given by President Tinubu sequel to a strike by labour unions which began on Monday, June 3, 2024, to demand for a new minimum wage and reversal of the latest electricity tariff hike.
Following the presentation by the Minister and his National Planning counterpart at the Presidential Villa, reports began to circulate that N105,000 was proposed as the new figure.
However, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed on his X account on Thursday, June 6, 2024 that the news is false.
He wrote, “The Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Wale Edun, has not proposed N105,000 minimum wage.
“The contrary story being disseminated is false.”
Tinubu is said to be currently reviewing this proposal, and an official announcement is expected soon.
