365Daily – Three conditions listed by the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, for his trial to be accelerated, have been turned down by the FederalGovernment (FG).
At the resumption of his trial on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at the Federal High Court in Abuja, he demanded, through his lawyers, that the three conditions must be met by the prosecution for the continuation of his trial.
One of his lawyers, Aloy Ejimakor, among others, said the first is that the bail granted him earlier be restored to enable him prepare for his defense, saying it was erroneously revoked based on a false and fraudulent claim of the FG.
He also requested that the arrest warrant issued against him based on allegations by the FG based on the allegation that he had jumped bail and escaped out of the country, should be withdrawn.
His lawyer also added that he (his counsel) must be permitted to have unhindered access to him as required by law.
The IPOB said when all these conditions are met, he would willingly face accelerated trial.
But counsel to the FG, Chief Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), asked the court to reject the conditions as they are :frivolous, vexatious, irritating and baseless.”
He reminded the court that it had earlier rejected the bail application and as such, cannot over rule itself.
The lawyer then charged Kanu to go to the Court of Appeal for redress on the bail request.
