The president of Ohanaeze Nd’Igbo FCT Chapter, Barrister Ifeanyichukwu Obasi-Nweze, popularly called Mmuo, has expressed shock over the passing away of the first executive governor of Abia State as well as immediate past minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, who was reported dead on Thursday.

The Ohanaeze leader who said Ogbonnaya Onu was actually his cousin, revealed that he was in the hospital with the deceased until he was moved to the morgue.

According him, “Ogbonnaya Onu is one of the very few Nigerian politicians who played what you can term CLEAN POLITICS. He was trustworthy, transparent, and an epitome of integrity.

Ogbonnaya was a lecturer in University of Port Harcourt, first and former governor of Abia State, presidential candidate of the defunct All Peoples Party, APP; former national chairman of the defunct All Nigerian Peoples Party, ANPP; former minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, presidential aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in 2023 general elections.

He was a prince in his hometown Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

“Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu was an intellectual, a good Christian, and a humble man. Nigeria lost a rare gem”, Mmuo said.

Recall that Ogbonnaya Onu was the minister of Science and Technology, but dropped his resignation letter in obedience to the order of the then president, Muhammadu Buhari, who stated that all members of his cabinet and appointees interested in electoral offices should resign on or before May 16, 2022.
