No fewer than two persons have lost their lives with over 70 houses destroyed at the veterinary area of North Bank in Makurdi Local Government Area of Benue State following a cult clash which later escalated into a full blown communal crisis.
Investigation by our correspondent indicates that the incident started Sunday afternoon at a drinking joint in the area following a misunderstanding between some Tiv and Jukun youths.
Some victims including Joseph Gyor, Peter Ngunan expressed shock at the level of destruction of property, while a widow who simply gave her name as Blessing in company of other fleeing victims said they lost their personal belongings including food stuffs during the crisis.
Another victim, John Nder, lamented that himself and others who were caught up in the crisis narrowly escaped death during the attack, adding that his motorcycle was snatched away from him at gunpoint and called for immediate government intervention.
Chairman of Makurdi Local Government Area James Dwem condemned the crisis during an interview with journalists, adding that he has personally visited the scene to carry out on-the-spot assessment of destruction and appealed to security agencies to arrest perpetrators for prosecution.
