Workers warn Sokoto government to distribute FG’s palliatives immediately

Government of Sokoto is to take proactive measures before the situation escalates beyond control

Civil servants and members of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Sokoto branch has called on the state government to as a matter of urgency release the funds given to them by the federal government to the states to distribute to civil servants as palliatives.

The members who trouped to government house were chanting in Hausa language: ‘Wayyo yunwa! A biya palliative’, meaning “Oh no hunger! Give us palliative”.

Unconnected with the facts that federal government under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu has released billions of naira as palliative to states, yet Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto is not making effort to release the said money to civil servants in the state.

Shedding more light on the peaceful demonstration, the workers said it is meant to serve as a message to reach the government of Sokoto as a warning and to inform federal government that state governors are yet to comply with the federal government’s order on sharing the money allocated to them as palliative.

Sokoto state chairman of the Labour union, Alhaji Abdullahi Jangul, praised his members and the civil servants who came out in thousands and partook in the peaceful protest.

“Our appeal to the government of Sokoto is to take proactive measures before the situation escalates beyond control”, the chairman averred.
