365Daily – It was a galaxy of colours and bright ideas last weekend, as Rwanda celebrated her heroes in Abuja.
The event tagged ‘Rwanda Heroes and Dignity Day’ celebration, took place on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at Transcorp Hilton Abuja, with distinguished guests gathered to pay homage to the heroic figures who have shaped the narrative of Rwanda’s history.
High Commissioner Bazivamo, at the event, emphasised the importance of acknowledging and celebrating those who have demonstrated unwavering integrity, patriotism, sacrifice, vision, humanity, and magnanimity.
He urged both Rwanda and Nigeria to draw vital lessons from their respective histories, recognizing that the foundation of a strong and prosperous nation lies in honouring and learning from its heroes.
He said that “The need for countries, particularly in Africa, to prioritize the education of the youth about local challenges, fostering a sense of national identity and understanding the struggles of the past can instill a profound appreciation for the values that build resilient societies.
Other speakers echoed these sentiments, as the emphasised the imperative to construct distinct models for leadership and highlighting the importance of cultivating leaders who embody the virtues of integrity, sacrifice, and vision.
It was noted that nurturing such qualities in individuals, both in Rwanda and Nigeria could pave the way for a brighter future and contribute to the advancement of the African continent as a whole.
The event served as a powerful reminder for Nigeria and Africa as a whole, to prioritize the recognition of their heroes and the transmission of their stories to younger generations, as it was argued that by embracing the lessons of the past and instilling values of integrity, patriotism, and sacrifice in the youth, nations can forge a path towards sustainable development and a harmonious future.
The event underscored the shared responsibility of nations to cultivate leaders who can inspire positive change and contribute to the well-being of their societies.
The event was graced by the presence of the Rwanda High commissioner, H.E Christophe Bazivamo; Rear Admiral Samuel Alade (Rtd); Country Director of Mercy Corps, Ndubuisi Anyanwu; and Jerry Nwohu Ph.D, Special Adviser to the Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives.
