Queensberry Promotions have confirmed a new date for Tyson Fury’s undisputed heavyweight showdown with Oleksandr Usyk.
WBC champion Fury, 35, was forced to postpone his highly-anticipated fight with Usyk after confirming yesterday he had sustained facial injuries while sparring for the contest originally scheduled for February 17.
But following that announcement, an official new date of May 18 has now been added to the calendar.
The location for Fury’s meeting with WBA Super, IBF and WBO champ Usyk remains unchanged with the contest set to take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
British fighter Fury said yesterday: “I am absolutely devastated after preparing for this fight for so long and being in such superb condition.
“I feel bad for everyone involved in this huge event and I will work diligently towards the rescheduled date once the eye has healed.
“I can only apologise to everyone affected, including my own team, Team Usyk, the undercard fighters, partners and fans as well as our hosts and my friends in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”
Fury’s previous fight was against former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou in Riyadh last October.
He last put his belt on the line against Derek Chisora at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in December 2022.
Usyk meanwhile knocked out Daniel Dubois in Poland last August having twice beaten Anthony Joshua by decision in his two fights prior.
The Ukrainian — two years older than Fury — has an unblemished 21-fight record, with 14 knockouts.
Fury meanwhile has won 34 of his 35 outings in the ring since his first professional bout in December 2008, drawing with Deontay Wilder in December 2018.
