365Daily – The Edo state government has warned that it would revoke the Certificate of Occupancy of any property of petroleum marketing outlets in the state that would engage in hoarding of petroleum products in the state.
This warning is coming on the heels of artificial fuel scarcity across the nation after President Bola Tinubu said during his inaugural speech on Monday, after his oath of office as president, that his government would remove the controversial fuel subsidy.
A statement in Benin on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, by Osaigbovo Iyoha, Chief of Staff, to the Edo State Governor, said: “The attention of Edo State Government has been drawn to the unscrupulous attempt by petrol delears in the state to hoard fuel and create artificial scarcity and price hike.
“As a responsible government that cares for her citizens, we shall resist this economic sabotage by every legal means possible.
“To this end, all petrol stations are ordered to immediately resume sales of products to Edo people or risk immediate closure, and possible revocation of their property to enable others who want to do legitimate and respectful business in Edo State come and invest.”
He said further that the state government cannot continue to allow extortion of the people in whatever guise.
