365Daily – Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, unveiled Nigeria’s new currency notes at the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the State House, Abuja.
The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, who was in attendance during the unveiling ceremony, told journalists in a briefing that the new notes can never be counterfeited.
Emefiele said the CBN, in collaboration with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was still engaging in monitoring and interrogation of withdrawal processes, and will restrict the volume of cash that people can withdraw on the counter.
He debunked rumours that the redesign of the Naira was targeted at an individual, and urged members of the public to desist from spreading such information.
The CBN Governor further said the notes will be redesigned after every five to eight years to prevent forgery.
He also said the CBN is now more determined to make Nigeria a cashless economy, as in other climes.
