365Daily – In what could be an obvious display of the rejection of the candidates of the All Progressives Party (APC) and its presidential candidates, stakeholders in the South East on Thursday, November 17, 2022, staged a walkout from a town hall meeting conveyed by the party in Owerri, the Imo State capital.

The flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Sen. Bola Tinubu, and his Vice Presidential candidate, Sen. Kashim Shettima, alongside the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, that of Ebonyi, David Umahi, the National leader of the party, Sen. Abdullahi Adamu, and other party chieftains, were present at the meeting.

As Sen. Shettima took the microphone to address the gathering, the hall became rowdy as people started to leave. Attempts to restore calm and order by Gov. Uzodimma and a unidentified voice calling for order over the public address statement and urging security agents in the venue to secure the gates failed to make the stakeholders return to their seats.

According to him, his government would comprise of people from every section that would discuss the grievances with all groups with a view to finding peaceful resolution as return of investment can only be achieved in an atmosphere of peace.

He stated: “I guarantee you that my government, our government will comprise of people from every section of the country and are ready to discuss the grievances with every group in search of peaceful resolution.

“We will encourage and facilitate leather production in places like Owerri and Aba at the same time we shall broaden the opportunity for you to engage in more international commerce by building more ports outside of Lagos such as Onne port that must be activated for optimum utilisation. The ports that are connected with railway lines that can evacuate goods without criminality. I envision the Owerri-Port Harcourt and Aba-Port Harcourt corridors becoming more activated and lucrative.”

On multiple extortions of businesses while moving their goods by several agents who mount road blocks, the APC candidate said: “We will put together a simple technology code that once you have cleared your goods and you got your sticker either in container or the vehicle conveying it, no agency of the government will be able to stop and extort you again. That will stop all nefarious extortion and exploitation on the road.”
