The Republic of South Sudan has sought collaboration with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to help in boosting the development of its teeming youth.
The Minister of Federal Affairs of South Sudan, Mr Lasuba Wango, said this when he led a delegation to pay a courtesy visit on the Director-General of NYSC, Brig.-Gen. Muhammad Fadah, on Wednesday in Abuja.
Wango said that South Sudan has a very large youth population, adding that the visit would provide the country with the opportunity to know how Nigeria structured its system to accommodate the youth in the development process of the country.
He also said that it would afford the nation the opportunity to know how Nigerian youths contribute in ensuring peace and stability as well as getting involved in the economic development of the country.
According to him, the team is also in Nigeria because South Sudan needs a system of government that can foster peace, unity, stability and prosperity in a society that is diverse in culture, religion and ethic differences.
He said that South Sudan, which gained its independence in 2011, was appreciative of the support of different African countries during the struggle.
“We are therefore seeking for a way to entrench our diversity and bridge every divisive tendencies that exists among us.
“Nigeria is special with respect to our needs, because Nigeria shares a lot of similar historical challenges with us and we are interested in learning experiences from Nigeria, particularly on the establishment of its federal system of government.
“This will enable us to structure a federal system that will accommodate our country’s cultural, religious and ethnic differences and help us in apportioning resources in the areas of power allocation and natural resources.”
Wango said that his team was very impressed with the kind of hospitality that was accorded them in Nigeria.
He added that it showed that both countries were working together to ensure that they forge a way forward in establishing peace and stability.
While welcoming the delegation, Fadah said that he was happy to know that the country had continued to make impressive stride towards economic and political stability.
According to Fadah, the visit to Nigeria is in furtherance of consolidating African solidarity.
This, he said, would enable NYSC and other Federal Government establishments provide and propose ideas that would contribute to prosperity and stability of South Sudan.
He promised the delegation a fruitful interaction and wished them successful journey to their destination at the end of the visit.
