365Daily – An ex-Secretary to the Anambra State Government, Oseloka Obaze, has commiserated with the people of Ogbaru, Anambra State, following the tragic boat accident which occurred in the area last Friday.
Obaze, who was the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate for Anambra in 2017, urged the state government and good citizens to rally behind the local government areas affected by the flood.
It would be recalled that Obaze, as SSG, was responsible for the effective handling of the 2012 flood menace in the state.
The former senior diplomat at the United Nations, who hails from Ogbaru, said in a tweet hours after the incident occurred: “I join the entire people of Ogbaru in Anambra State in mourning the loss of lives resulting from a tragic boat mishap yesterday in Ogbaru LGA.
“My sincere condolences to my people, especially the bereaved families.”
An outboard engine boat ferrying about 85 passengers and headed for the popular Nkwo Ogbakuba market had experienced engine failure soon after takeoff at Umunankwo community and capsized. Between 20-30 passengers are yet unaccounted for.
Given the huge human and material loss, Oseloka had taken a break from his demanding role as Senior Advisor of Labour Party’s Obi-Datti Presidential campaigns, and visited Ogbaru to assess the situation of things.
