About five Local Government Areas in Anambra including Ogbaru, Anambra East, Anambra West, Ayamelun, Onitsha South, parts of Awka North and Ihiala are suffering heavily from flooding.

365Daily – Following the devastating flood ravaging parts of the state, Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has appealed to the Federal Government to come to its aid.
Soludo made the call on Thursday, October 6, 2022, after visiting Ogbaru, one of the flooded areas.
Recall that a former member of the House of Representatives who represented Ogbaru Federal Constituency, Hon. Victor Afam Ogene, had sent out a save our souls message to the state government, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and other relevant agencies to come to the aid of the inhabitants of the area who had been displaced by the ravaging flood.
About five Local Government Areas in Anambra including Ogbaru, Anambra East, Anambra West, Ayamelun, Onitsha South, parts of Awka North and Ihiala are suffering heavily from flooding.
Governor Soludo said in a statement signed by his Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and good spirited individuals and groups to assist his government to alleviate the hardship faced by displaced persons.
Aburime stated: “They need support now and afterwards because their houses, properties and farmlands are submerged under water. I’m worried that they will have to start life afresh.
“He (Soludo) said his government was doing everything possible to alleviate the sufferings of the people.
“We are receiving people from Delta State to join IDP Camp in Onitsha North. Today alone, over 400 displaced persons have reported here.”
Soludo urged the Federal Government to hold talks with the Cameroonian government for a lasting solution to the devastating flooding which resulted from the opening of dams in the neighboring country.
He lamented that people abandon their homes yearly due to flooding caused by the opening of dams in the neighboring Cameroun and advised the Federal Governmentto hold talks with the governmentto find a lasting solution to the problem.
He also suggested that construction of dams or diversionary channels could help solve the problem, while expressing optimism that the flood would recede soon so that victims would find their way back to their respective homes.
The Governor assured that the challenges of the flood victims had been noted and efforts will be made to restore power supply, provide foams, soap, mosquito nets, medical care and other items needed to settle back to normal living.
“Government will extend support and hopefully, within two weeks, the flood will subside. When you return to your homes, the government will still come back to visit and assess your losses.
“We are willing to help restore all you have lost,” he said.
Some of the displaced person’s camps visited were Onitsha North Council and Umuoba Anam and Ekpe Nneyi, Umueri in Anambra East Council area.
