365Daily – Cross River Governor, Ben Ayade, on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, locked out hundreds of Government House office staff who resumed work late.
The Governor had arrived at the office at 8am to find many of the civil servants were not on seat and immediately ordered that a register be opened for them to sign arrival time.
He also asked the Chief Security Officer to lock the gate, thereby keeping out many of the workers.
All cadre of workers, including top ranking officers of the state Civil Service, as well as political appointees, were affected by the order.
Special Adviser on Media to Governor Ayade, Mr Christian Ita, has defended his principal’s action, saying he was upholding discipline.
“The normal resumption time is 8am, and if a governor can be in office at that time, why can’t others be around?
“The governor has always shown reward and sanction to workers; he doesn’t hesitate to sanction when you err and also reward you when you are committed to duty,” he stated.
