365Daily – The 2023 Anambra South senatorial election candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Hon Chris Emeka Azubogu, has hailed Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, for promising to complete the long abandoned Amansea-Okpeze-Ndiukwuenu-Awa-Ufuma road before the end of the year.

Governor Soludo had, while on a consolation visit to the family of the late former Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Anambra State Signage and Advertising Agency, Chief Joe Anatune, on Thursday, June 23, 2022, at the Anatunes’ country home in Awa, Orumba North LGA,  disclosed that plans have been concluded to mobilise contractors back to the project site.

According to him, the completion target is December 2022.

According to a press statement issued on June 24, 2022 by his Media Office, the House of Representatives member, who was in the entourage of the Governor on the visit, couldn’t hide his joy after the disclosure.

Quoting Hon. Azubogu, the press statement said: “Like every right-thinking Onye Anambra, I am elated by Mr. Governor’s move to get the long abandoned road completed due to its importance to Anambra’s economy.

“You can’t imagine what the project will do for the state’s economy when completed. As a major link road between the State Capital, Awka and Orumba North and South axis, the road will not only improve economic activities but drastically reduce travel time and the sufferings of people who ply it in diverse ways. Therefore, one cannot but be happy over the prospects.”

Engr. Azubogu later joined the Governor to inspect a newly rehabilitated portion of the Amansea axis of the Enugu/Onitsha Old Road, which Gov. Soludo revealed was financed with proceeds saved from cutting cost of facility maintenance by his government.

The Governor was cited as sayinf that “the Amansea-Ugwuoba Old Road rehabilitation was built with savings made from cutting costs of one month in the facility management account, which was formally placed at N137million monthly by the previous administration; but which has now been cut down to N11million, thus leaving the government with N126million in savings.”
