365Daily – The presidential primary election of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has produced former vice president of Nigeria Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as its flag bearer after a keenly contest between him, Rivers State governor, Ezenwo Nyesom Wike and others.
The election, which was held at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, on Saturday, May 28 to early morning of Sunday, 29 had Atiku who was also the party’s presidential candidate at the 2019 general elections poll a total of 371 votes to beat his closest challenger, Wike who scored 237 votes as against other aspirants.
The other aspirants were former president of the Senate Bukola Saraki 70 votes, Akwa Ibom governor Udom Emmanuel 38 votes, Bauchi governor Bala Mohammed 20 votes, another former president of the Senate Pius Anyim 14 votes, Diana Oliver 1vote and Sam Ohuabunwa 1 vote.
Meanwhile, Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal had earlier stepped down from the race at the venue, asking his supporters to give their votes to Atiku.
Atiku will now slug it out with whosoever emerges winner of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, primary slates to hold from June 6 to 7 as earlier announced by the party as well as those of the other political Party.
