365Daily– The political family of the Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, seems to be falling apart in bits as silent dissent is progressing to open opposition to his leadership.
Tinubu is banking on his political sons and daughters to actualise his 2023 presidential ambition.
Already, the body language of his ‘political son’, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, speaks of his intention to contest for the APC’s ticket for same position with Tinubu.
In a latest development, the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, a former Governor of Osun State, has openly spoken against his erstwhile reverred leader in a condemnation of his ‘imposition’ of his successor in Osun State.
The relationship between the two had been breaking down slowly before his recent public speech against Tinubu as evident in his failure to pay him the visit when he was sick and receiving treatment in the United Kingdom.
Speaking in Oriade LGA of Osun State on Monday, February 14, 2022, Aregbesola said Tinubu had arrogated “beyond his status” and “turned himself to a god over us”.
The history of their disagreement could be traced to the recognition of Aregbesola’s successor, Gov. Oyetola’s faction of the APC in Osun by Tinubu and the APC national leadership.
The Minister, who is in charge of the Mandate faction, is backing a former Osun secretary to the state government (SSG), Moshood Adeoti, as the next governor of the state while Oyetola is seeking reelection.
Saying “only God can terrify us, not man”, Oyetola said while speaking on Monday: “We came back home to reposition our party to where it was meant to be because we followed the lead of our leader that we thought was a noble and reliable fellow. We followed him Tinubu dutifully with all sense of loyalty.
“Some people even thought that we were no longer Muslims because of how we cooperated with him. We dealt with him without treachery but we never knew he planned evil for us.
“We exalted him beyond his status and he turned himself to a god over us and we had sworn to ridicule anyone who compared himself to God.
“When he handed over the present governor to me around July of 2018, he declared that he will succeed me and continue my good works. That was what he told me. He knows he has not done so if he is listening now and he has failed to call my successor to order.
“That was how it was in Lagos at a time; a governor derailed and the party members unseated him using the ballot boxes. As it was in Lagos yesterday, so shall it be in Osun today.
“What is good for the goose is also good for the gander.”
