365Daily – The Oluwo of Iwo land, Abdulrasheed Akanbi, has disowned a letter in circulation wherein he allegedly sought financial support from his state Governor, Gboyega Oyetola, to fund his upcoming wedding to a princess allegedly from Ado Bayero family in Kano State.In the letter dated February 8, 2022 and addressed to Alhaji Isiaka Gboyega Oyetola, the Executive Governor of Osun State, the Iwo monarch, through an intermediary, allegedly said he was notifying the Governor of his upcoming wedding to a Kano Princess from Ado Bayero dynasty.
He added that such weddings required huge funds and urged him for support.
,The letter read: “I have the instruction of His Imperial Majesty, Oba (Dr) Abdul-Rasheed Adewale Akanbi, the Oluwo of Iwo to notify you of the Oluwo’s decision to marry a Princess from Kano Emirate, to be precise Ado Bayero dynasty.
“I wish to remind your Excellency that the kind of royal wedding within two notable traditional institutions in Nigeria will require huge expenses, which necessitate the support of state government financially even logistically.
“Moreover, the estimated amount for the event is above N20,000,000. His Excellency, Oba Akanbi relies on you for necessary consideration and approval on this request.”
But in a response on Firday, February 11, 2022, the Olowu, while speaking with BBC, agreed he was getting married to a lady from Kano but labelled the letter a fake.
He promised to release details about the wedding in due time.
The Yoruba monarch is not new to controversies. His first marriage to a Jamaican, Queen Chanel Chin, ended after four years over alleged maltreatment of his ex wife.
He was suspended in 2020 following a physical assault on Dhikrulahi Akinropo, Agbowu of Ogbaagbaa during a meeting. The Oluwo defended his action, saying he hit his fellow traditional ruler because he called him names and pointed his staff at him.
