The 34 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army Obinze, Owerri, has celebrated the year 2021 West African Social Activities (WASA), to officially close-out the year.
The ceremony co-organised by the Brigade and its 342 Artillery Regiment was held in Owerri, on Saturday.
Speaking at the event, the Brigade Commander, Brig.-Gen. Raymond Utsaha thanked God for a successful year, while appreciating the management of the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, for its support to the Brigade throughout year 2021.
The commander also extolled the doggedness of his men and officers, describing them as “steadfast”.
He urged all hands to remain on deck as the Army continued carrying out its mandate of protecting the Nation’s territorial integrity, sovereignty and the lives and property of its citizenry.
” I thank our men and officers for their doggedness, steadfastness and unflinching commitment to nationhood and service to father land.
” I urge you to continue discharging your duties with renewed zeal and unswerving commitment to the tenets of nationhood for which we have been called “, he said.
He described WASA as an “age-long tradition” which provided a platform for soldiers to freely interact with the civilian populace, as a way of synergizing to achieve the common goal of nationhood.
Also speaking, the Special Guest of Honour, Maj.-Gen. Roland Ogbonna (Rtd) commended Utsaha for his “exceptional leadership acumen”.
He called on men and officers of the brigade to continue demonstrating their support to the leadership of the brigade for sustained progress and unhindered successes.
Highlights of the event included the presentation of awards to outstanding officers and invited guests, as well as a tug-of-war display by various groups.
Other highlights were dance presentations by popular entertainer, Harry Anyanwu, popularly known as Harry-B, as well as by cultural troupes of the brigade representing the Igbo, Hausa, Yoruba, Efik, Tiv and southern Kaduna tribes.
