365Daily – Ebonyi State Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Barr. Orji Uchenna Orji, yesterday stated that the South East geopolitical zone deserves a shot at the Presidency in the 2023 general election.
The Commissioner stated this while answering some questions during a television interview in Lagos.
Orji, who stated that Ebonyi State believes in the indivisibility of Nigeria, called on political parties to be fair and zone the presidential slots of their parties to the South East zone of the country.
“As a State, we believe that we are part and parcel of Nigeria. We believe that we need to contribute our quota to the development of our nation. We believe that Nigeria is indivisible. We need to encourage a nation where there’s love, peace, order and equity.
“The 2023 Presidency, for us, it is the doing of political parties and we are urging political parties to be fair and concede the exalted position to the South East. And it is only when that is done that people will begin to talk about who does contest what.
“What is important is that we should not allow inflammatory statements, fake news and altercation rising from verbal abuse of leaders. It is not necessary at all. For the people of Ebonyi State, we think that we need to talk on a round table and to see how to get to others across board to appreciate the need for fairness.
“We are human beings who have conscience. South East does deserve a shot at the Presidency, because it is one of the essential offices if allowed to rotate across board will give confidence to all the inhabitants of the nation.
“The Governor defected to the APC because he felt that as a Governor in the South East and of course, as an emerging voice in the South East, he needed to let us know that we needed to launch back to political mainstreaming.
“The South East has always been known for political mainstreaming belonging to the party at the centre. We never joined opposition. In 1999, all of us joined the party at the centre.
“So, why not and that’s why the Governor said we have to join the party at the centre which is the APC and we are doing that with all our strength, with all our hearts, with all our might and the Governor is doing that, so that we will not have the double jeopardy of a tribe that belongs to the minority political party.”
