365Daily – The League of Anambra Professionals (LAP) has slammed the three Senators representing Anambra State for not taking a stand on electronic transmission of election results.
The Senate had, on Thursday, July 15, 2021, voted on the Electoral Act Amendment Bill, and specifically on the controversial Clause 52(3) which deals with electronic transmission of election results.
Senators had to take individual votes to state their position whether the clause should be approved or not, leading to a conditional approval of the electronic transmission of electoral results.
However, Anambra Senators did not participate in the process as they walked out of the chambers during the individual voting session.
The three Senators, as earlier reported by 365Daily; Stella Oduah of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Uche Ekwunife (PDP) and Ifeanyi Ubah, Young Progressive Party (YPP), were present at the Chambers when the initial general voice vote was taken, but inexplicably decided to leave the floor before individual votes were done in that important legislative activity.
Reacting to this development, LAP, in a message signed by its President, Chijioke Okoli, SAN, and individually sent to the three Senators on Friday July 16, 2021, expressed disappointment over their actions.
The professionals said their absence during the momentous vote on the Electoral Act Amendment bill, was a “paralysing shock to discerning Anambra State indigenes, especially those of us in the League of Anambra Professionals [LAP].”
The group stated further: “Please be put on notice that LAP shall put you to task before the Anambra State people/electorate. You must account for this egregious dereliction of duty, if not now, then in the near future.
“It is axiomatic that it is this kind of leadership disconnect and irresponsibility that helped in providing oxygen for the growth and the nihilistic excesses of IPOB and the youths in our area.
“It beggars belief that the existential socio-political turbulence which has engulfed our land has not taught our political leadership (of which you constitute a prominent part) that the tide has changed irrevocably and it can no longer be business as usual where political representatives represent anything but the interests of the people on whose behalf they are wielding power.”
