…to face terrorism charges

365Daily – The leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has been arrested and brought back to Nigeria to face terrorism charges.

The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, made the disclosure to journalists on Tuesday, June 29, 2021.

He said the Sunday arrest followed a collaborative effort between security agencies in Nigeria and the Interpol.

Malami further disclosed that Kanu would be taken before the Federal High Court in Abuja for continuation of his trial on charges bordering on terrorism, treasonable felony, unlawful possession of firearms and management of an unlawful society.

However, IPOB Spokesman, Emma Powerful,  denied the news of the arrest.

The Nigeria Police has not responded to the development.

In 2017, Kanu jumped bail which was granted him on health grounds and relocated abroad.

He was facing trial on charges bordering on treasonable felony before an Abuja Federal High Court for campaigning for the independent Republic of Biafra through IPOB, an organisation proscribed by the Federal Government.
