A 4-man committee to investigate what led to the collapsed of the perimeter fence at the stadium in Abakaliki, which is still under construction, has set-up by the Ebonyi State Government.
The State Commissioner for Information and state Orientation, Mr Uchenna Orji, made this known in Abakaliki while addressing journalists on Wednesday after the State Executive Council meeting.
Orji reiterated that the State Executive Council has made approvals in phases for the construction of the parking lots at the Airport.
“The Executive Council has approved N949 million in the first phase while N950 and N643 million have been approved for the second and third phases respectively.”
“Airport flyover got an approval of N952 million, Edda/Iyere Flyover received N978 million approval for the second phase”, he reiterated .
According to Orji, the Council was worried at the sudden collapse of the perimeter fence at the on-going Stadium located at the Centenary City Abakaliki insisting that the committee would unravel the circumstances that led to the mayhem.
He named the members of the committee to include Mr Mohammed Idris (Chairman ), other members include Mr Otah Felix , Mr Obinna Emmanuel and Hon Ogiji Chike .
According to him, the terms of reference included “to unravel the circumstances that led to the collapse of the perimeter fence, evaluate the work to be done, ascertain the extent of the collapsed fence and any other matters that may be in the interest of the state.
The Committee has seven days to submit its report and make recommendations to the State Government.
On the issue of revalidation of Certificate of Occupancy (CoF), Barrister Orji said that the Executive Council received report of line documents flying the state, where people who served as land officials in the past still sign and backdate land documents”
He emphasized that revalidation of land documents would put a stop to this dubious practice stressing that a Committee would be constituted in April 2021 to develop the measures before being considered by the State Executive Council.
Speaking against the backdrop of renewed hostilities that erupted between the people of Effium and Ezza-Effium in Ohaukwu Local Government Area, Barrister Orji urged the warring communities to embrace peace and harmonious coexistence that would bring lasting peace.
