The Commandant of Delta State Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr Chike Ikpeamonwu has urged Deltans and Nigerians in general to remain dogged as the country passes through trying times, even as he reiterated the ability of Nigeria to surmount the various challenges facing it.
Ikpeamonwu said that the general state of insecurity across the country which has put public and private properties at the mercy of hoodlums and terrorists demands collective civil vigilance.
Ikpeamonwu made this known in a statement to mark the World Civil Defence day, and signed by Eke L. Onyekachi, the state command’s public relations officer as saying that Deltans and Nigerians in general should use this year’s Civil Defence Day to remain steadfast and vigilante.
“In line with the annual comomoration of the World Civil Defence Day on every 1st of March, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Delta State Command, joins the rest of the world to celebrate the day which is a yearly event mapped out by the INTERNATIONAL CIVIL DEFENCE ORGANISATION (ICDO) With the theme “STRONG CIVIL PROTECTION TO PRESERVE NATIONAL ECONOMY 2021.”
“In line with this year’s theme, our national economy can only be preserved and sustained through the protection of lives and property of the citizens.”
He enjoined everyone to play their part in ensuring the security of civil populace, the critical national assets and infrastructure, adding that security is everybody’s business.
He reiterated the commitment of his Command to zero tolerance to crimes and criminality in line with the agency’s mandate.
As part of the day, the command has lined up series of events, which includes rally/mini show of force, sensitisation, lectures/workshop and the commandant’s address to mark event at the State Command Headquarters, Asaba.
