A mystery fire has razed the Delta State High Court and Magistrate Court located in Issele-Uku, headquarters of the Aniocha North Local Government Area, Delta State.
The incident, 365Daily gathered, occurred on Sunday night, February 21, 2021. Both courts share the same premises.
The cause of the fire is yet unknown, as the surrounding bushes were not burnt recently to trigger a fire outbreak.
It was gathered that an electricity malfunction being the cause was also ruled out, as the premises was not connected to electricity prior to the fire incident.
365Daily gathered that many court documents were destroyed as the buildings were completely razed.
Hon. Emeka Emmanuel Nwaobi, member representing Aniocha North Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, who visited the scene on Monday, February 22, described the incident as a “colossal damage”.
He said: “I can vividly say that from what I have seen, it was a colossal damage. The whole building was engulfed by fire and as at this time, we are yet to ascertain the cause of the fire outbreak.
“What has happened here is actually a big loss to Issele-Uku community, the people of Aniocha North and the Delta State Government.
“We are going to take it stage by stage; first by reporting the situation to His Excellency, the Governor and drawing the attention of the Chief Justice to what has happened here. After that, we should be able to discuss the relocation of the officials of the State Judiciary.
“I am very sure that His Excellency, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration, being a very responsible and responsive government, will in no distant time, bring back the courts to their normal states.”
