….As schoolboys arrive Katsina
Hundreds of schoolboys abducted last Friday from Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, Katsina, were released unconditionally on Thursday night, Governor Aminu Masari, has disclosed.
He also added that they will today undergo medical checkup in Katsina, the state capital.
Though details of the happenings that led to the release of the schoolboys remain unclear at the moment, the Governor told CNN in a news interview aired Thursday night that the students were released ”unconditionally.”
He also added that the security service would brief the state on next steps to be taken to forestall a future reoccurrence.
Masari, on Friday, received the students in the Government House on their arrival, with many of them still in their school uniforms.
344 of the abducted schoolboys were released on Thursday night, the governor earlier disclosed, and were headed to the state capital from Tsafe, Zamfara State.
He also said they would be transported to Kankara today.
About 600 boys were reportedly kidnapped from their school in Kankara last Friday, with a little over 200 found in the following days in the bushes surrounding the school and its environs.
The identity of the group responsible for the kidnap remains unclear. While the Federal Government, Katsina State Government and the Army insist that local bandits were responsible for the attack, terrorist group, Boko Haram, has taken the credit.
A video allegedly showing the boys at Boko Haram’s enclave was released on Thursday but was disclaimed by Governor Masari in the chat with CNN.
The Governor insisted that the attack had ”the imprint” of local bandits and did not show any link to Boko Haram.
