Barely 24 hours after 43 farmers were beheaded in their farm in Borno State by men of the terrorist Boko Haram group, seven people have been reported dead in renewed attacks in Jema’a Local Government Area, Kaduna State.
The state’s Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, confirmed the incident in which four houses were also razed to the ground on Sunday.
The incident occurred in the wee hours of the day at Ungwan Bido Village, with some local residents reportedly sustaining injuries and two children missing.
Aruwan said the early morning attack was sequel to the reported murder of a herdsman from Ungwan Pah Village, Isiyaka Saidu, by unknown persons. He was said to have been found with deep knife cuts on his head.
Governor of the state, Nasir El-Rufai, has reacted to the incident by directing security agencies to investigate and arrest anyone found culpable in the loss of lives and properties in the local government, while expressing condemnation for the fresh attacks.
While directing the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to urgently provide relief to the victims of the fracas, he called for collaboration between security agencies and traditional leaders, community leaders in sustaining the government’s community peacebuilding efforts.
He also condoled with the families of the deceased and all who sustained injuries.
