2023: Why South-East must negotiate with the North – Ekweremadu

The South East must lobby the North if it wants its demand for an Igbo Presidency to be met, former Deputy President of the Senate, Dr Ike Ekweremadu, has said.

Political leaders and other notable people from the South East have been clamouring for major political parties to zone their presidential slots to the South East in 2023.

The Senator who represents Enugu West Senatorial District said this on Wednesday in a presentation at the launching ceremony of a book titled, ” Pitch: Debunking Marketing’s Strongest Myths”, written by Ikem Okuhu.

Ekweremadu said, “There is clamour for Igbo presidency today and I believe it can only be realised if we engage ourselves in conversations with northern Nigeria to buy into our initiatives.

“There can never be a universal decision by any ethnic group and the rest of us in this country. It is only dialogue and conversation that can bring equity to all parts of the country.” 

Earlier, the author of the book, Ikem Okuhu, said he was motivated to write it because of the lack of representation of Nigeria’s realities in available branding, marketing and perception management literature.
 
He explained, “As a journalist and Pubic Relations practitioner, I have been exposed to tons of literature on the subject of branding, marketing and perception management. The problem I had with almost all the books I have read are the near total absence of the typical and peculiar Nigerian realities in these otherwise excellent works of literature.
 
“Whether you are talking of Globalisation or you are looking at Nation Branding or you are researching the motivations behind the reasons we buy or you want to unravel the relevance of cultural elements in advertising, I have always believed that no one can capture the realities of Nigeria in these areas better than a person living in this country.”
